This Victorian house located in Harringay is transformed into a modern dwelling after a loft conversion, a rear extension and the rearrangement of the internal spaces. While the front of the house preserves the original design, the back adopts a contemporary language with a series of terraces stepping down to the backyard.

The renovation of this single-family house unleashes the potential of the property by reconfiguring the volume and the internal distribution of the space.

Despite the building's small size, the ground floor has been converted into a spacious living room with a bright kitchen. A large window allows the back yard to become part of the interior, while a small courtyard has been created to provide light and cross ventilation from the opposite side.

The cross-section shows the changes made to the original floor levels to achieve a sense of spaciousness, even providing a double-height space in the living room. This ceiling feature is made by using a clever structural solution: transverse steel beams supporting a suspended slab.

The interior design is based on fresh textures and subtle shades of white to accentuate the brightness of the space. The wood flooring provides a cosy atmosphere, while the organic shapes of the loose furniture enhance the interior with a unique, natural and minimalist character.

The project is completed with a consistent landscape design. The soft treatment of the outdoor space, considered as an extension of the dining room, is based on simple wood and concrete platforms with low-maintenance vegetation.
