Quantity surveys are detailed reports that break down the list of items necessary for project execution into sections. Each of these items, known as a budget line, includes a measurement unit and a description of the materials and labor required for the work.
The cost plan is computed by the quantity surveyor, who adds the corresponding unit price and amount to each budget line, or it’s calculated with a specific software, using prices from public databases.
Quantity surveys and cost plans are segmented into sections or groups of items related to a specific criterion or construction stage, such as structure, masonry, finishes, furniture, etc.
Deliverables
Accurate quantity surveys or cost plans can only be generated once all project items have been thoroughly defined. When we provide an estimate, a total is calculated by adding provisional sums to each section before complete documentation is ready and budget lines are fully updated.
Objectives
Quantity surveys are employed to determine the project budget, primarily by soliciting market prices from contractors and comparing their quotes in the tendering process. This ensures that all costs pertain to the same items and accurately reflect the project’s specifications.
When cost plan calculations are performed using public price databases, the resulting estimate may not represent a market price. This type of budget approximation is for reference only. To obtain a valid quotation, including market prices, we provide a consultancy service for tendering.
